You might have heard (recently) of the concept of Fifth Freedom flights. It may sound like a bad action film, but its principles are fairly straightforward and, to be honest, a bit boring.
But, as you’ll see in the video, below, in practice it can bring some benefits.

The agreements propose that for scheduled international air services each nation grant to all others, with the possible exception of former enemy countries, these “freedoms”
- To fly across its territory without landing.
To land for nontraffic purposes. - To put down passengers, mail, and cargo taken on in the territory of the country whose nationality the aircraft possesses.
- To take on passengers, mail, and cargo destined for the territory of the country whose nationality the aircraft possesses.
- To take on passengers, mail, and cargo destined for the territory of another agreeing nation and to put down passengers, mail, and cargo coming from any such territory.
