Modern tourists will inevitably take planes to where they’re headed. That just makes sense in so many ways. Air travel offers far more routes to destinations that you want, compared to other modes. If you’re lucky, you find a super cheap ticket, plop down into a window seat and off you go!
However, when you think of the airports themselves, what immediately springs to mind? For most people, it’s the endless slog of having walk from one terminal to another just to catch your plane. If you have multiple connections, you might find yourself exhausted after walking a minor marathon from one place to the next. But, why is this? There are a couple of reasons.
According to Larry Summers, former Clinton Treasury Secretary, Obama chief economic advisor, and Harvard President, observes that “the newer the [airport] terminal, the less convenient it is to use” thanks to all of the long walks and wonders why that’s the case. The reason is actually simple economics, but to see that you have to be aware of the details of how terminals are financed, and how airport revenue agreements work.
