Plan a Savannah (holiday)

The United States is a vast chunk of land, with all types of terrain, climates and adventuresMany of you may have already visited –  or may even reside there. (We did, a long time ago.)  Calling it diverse would be an understatement.

Most travelers tend to focus on New York, or Los Angeles, San Francisco or sunny Florida.  But, as you head down south, on the east coast, there are all sorts of delights, some of which you may know, but never have actually visited.

But, we’re talking about Savannah, Georgia today.  As old as America can be, it is a gorgeous, diverse and tangibly historic destination, and one you should look into.

Settled in 1733 by British colonists,  the city has remained almost untouched since then. During the US Civil War, the mayor of Savannah gave Sherman’s men run of the city in exchange for leaving it untorched. As a result, Savannah is one of the few major cities in the South with antebellum charm and architecture remaining intact. Savannah has one of the largest historic districts in the country, with buildings that seem untouched – more liked pampered – that make you feel like you’ve gone back in time.  And Atlanta is a few hours away by car:  Charleston South Carolina, is not far, as well:  more historic beauty.

Try to skip summers, as they can be unbearably hot.  But the rest of the year.
