You should already know the adage about baggage: “I’m not sure what’s worse, the emotional baggage I’m carrying or the oversized charge for it.” It’s a slippery slope, no matter what. Don’t trip.
So, when in Europe, as if having a plethora of terrific airline choices, an almost endless supply of destinations and deals isn’t enough, the peasants are rising up and taking umbrage with some of the low-cost airlines. Campaigners are calling for EU lawmakers to intervene in the hubbub over whether budget airlines should be allowed to charge customers who want to take hand baggage on to a flight.


A coalition of 17 European consumer organizations, coordinated by the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), has filed a formal complaint with the European Commission and the Consumer Protection Cooperation Network (CPC). They are targeting seven major EU-based budget airlines: Easyjet, Norwegian Airlines, Ryanair, Volotea, Vueling, Transavia, and Wizzair. That’s almost all of the European airlines. What next?
