No future tense

The European Union is a marvelous thing.  Twenty seven united countries.  Almost as many different languages, customs and levels of advancement. An estimated total population of about 447 million.

One of its main tenets is to make all countries equal, with good social health and freedom for all.  Equals among equals.  And it does a good job at this, on balance.

With a project of this size, though (in many places) ideas or initiatives – or even peoples – may slip through the cracks.  One such group are residents of Latvia, but speak the Livonian language.  It is estimated that there are only 200 of this group left speaking a language now considered by linguists to be on the verge of extinction.

What do we do to foster groups like this and keep equality and diversity alive?  They are not the only ones.
