Never Too Small: Shenzhen

The world’s on fire. There are too many of us. We’re not paying the attention that we should. As of Saturday, May 10, 2025, the estimated world population is over 8.19 billion people. The populations are largest in Asia. For example, India: has approximately 1.46 billion people. China has approximately 1.42 billion people. And places like Africa, with several countries having large and rapidly growing populations, such as Nigeria and Ethiopia, will be running out of space soon. We’d better do something now. Regular readers will have seen the dozens of posts about the European living YouTube “site Never Too Small.” As the name implies, the site promotes and urges humans to wake up and find ways to do with less.

We happened to watch a video today with another one of our favourite content creators, Yan, from Little Chinese Everywhere. She, who is Chinese, with her German husband, Flo, cover Asia from one side to the next. This episode was especially interesting and timely. Yan, speaks with locals about what it’s like to live in the tiniest of apartments and flats.

Most westerners would scoff at this lifestyle, but many Asians have no choice. In the Video, Yan chats with a variety of locals to see what the rent prices are, or the size of the flats, or how much it costs to buy a place of your own. Your editor and his better half were gob smacked. But, this may be the future if we don’t wake up soon. Thanks to Yan for this eye-opening tour.
