Quito? Neato! This time by train.
We’re very fortunate that many of the big content creators have, over the past year or so, been releasing stories, videos and how to visit places that you might want to visit. The films are created, released and then made available on YouTube. When you have creators such as Germany’s DW being part of that goodness, you know you’ll have a quality result. And, being European, DW have a real thirst to see all of the world, and in this instance, rail around the world, including This video about Ecuador.

If you’ve not watched these before, rest assured that they’re not only monologues about trains – which they do cover in very satisfying ways, but they also make sure that the people shine, as well. Many of them work on the trains as well, so this is almost like being there.
Thanks, DW! So, let’s get started. Ecuador (officially the Republic of Ecuador), is a country in northwestern South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean on the west. It also includes the Galápagos Province which contains the Galápagos Islands in the Pacific, about 1,000 kilometers (621 mi) west of the mainland. The country’s capital is Quito and its largest city is Guayaquil.
This is, for many, the crowning jewel. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Galápagos are a living laboratory of evolution, boasting unique wildlife (giant tortoises, blue-footed boobies, marine iguanas, Darwin’s finches) found nowhere else on Earth. It’s a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience for wildlife enthusiasts.
The majestic Andes run right through the country, offering dramatic snow-capped volcanoes (like Cotopaxi and Chimborazo), picturesque valleys, and vibrant indigenous communities. Also, a significant portion of Ecuador is covered by the Amazon, providing opportunities for eco-lodges, wildlife spotting (monkeys, jaguars, anacondas, diverse birdlife), and cultural immersion with indigenous tribes. This is as real as it gets.
