Certainly one of the most memorable and identifable places in the world, Peru’s Machu Picchu doesn’t need much introduction. But for those who are unaware or need a refresher, Machu Picchu is the site of an ancient Inca city, high in the Andes of Peru.
Located at 2,430m (8,000 ft), this UNESCO World Heritage site is often referred to as “The Lost City of the Incas”. It’s one of the most familiar symbols of the Incan Empire and also one of the most famous and spectacular sets of ruins in the world.
But what’s new about this glorious gem is we may have been pronouncing it wrong all along. But two university authors believe that its real name is Huayna Picchu. Have we been visiting a different place this whole time? No, silly.
