That’s history, sometimes. Especially if “the victors” win. And they usually do. The rest of us usually only find out much, much later. A good example is Chungking Mansions. Ring a bell? Likely not. Things like the subject matter here often submerge into anonymity, never to be referenced or though of again.
Chungking Mansions is a building located at 36–44 Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Though the building was supposed to be residential, it is made up of many independent low-budget guesthouses, shops, and other services, according to Wikipedia. It is legend for many who understood what it was and what it meant, each person with their own perspective – including those who never even set foot there. This is one of those genuinely fascinating historical tales that says so much, even now. Watch the video above to see how the other half lived . . barely.

You can visit Chungking Mansions, but be prepared for a chaotic, busy, and potentially intimidating experience, especially if you are traveling alone or with a family, according to Tripadvisor and y Travel Blog. While it offers a unique blend of cultures and affordable food and goods, it is also known for its touts, small and crowded elevators, and a history of illegal activities, though it is generally considered safer in daytime with security cameras. Those were different times. We’re looking forward to exploring it.
