Lift to the ocean floor

For many a post, we’ve featured the adventuresome and ever-inquisitive Tom Scott. He has a knack for unearthing places you’ve likely never been before and escapades that it’s highly likely that you’ve never seen before. He’s YouTube’s Inspector Gadget.

Tom decided a year or so back that he was going to slow down if not stop his videos: he’d been doing it for many, many years and it takes a lot of effort. So, we decided to bring to the surface – literally and figuratively – one of his vids, a “diving bell” experience.

Yes, you can experience a “diving gondola” or “diving bell” experience, a strange elevator to the ocean floor, at several seaside resorts along the German Baltic Sea coast. These are modern attractions that allow you to descend into the water and view the ocean floor from a submerged chamber.

The “Tauchgondel” (diving gondola) is a chamber that sinks under the water, allowing visitors to look out at the ocean floor without getting wet. Sounds unbelievable, especially if you’ve forgotten your science lessons from school. But, it’s real. You can find these attractions at different seaside resorts along the northeast coast of Germany, looking out onto the Baltic Sea. When has science been so much fun?

Yep. Expedia can get you there and on your way to the Tauchgondels. To book your adventure, click here
