Is it time for you to put your deposit down? A few times in past posts, we’ve featured NEOM, the almost overwhelmingly ambitious housing of the future, courtesy of crown prince Mohammad bin Salman and Launched in 2017. To our eyes anyway (alas, we aren’t the target market) it feels like the whole endeavour has somewhat come to a halt.
Initially, when the idea was first announced in an incredibly spectacular fashion, it was all over the news. There were articles in the press about it being a bit too grandiose and, therefore, only realistic to the ultra ultra rich. More news appeared that the construction of the spectacle had died out.
For a little more information about NEOM, Wikipedia says “Neom is an urban area being built by Saudi Arabia in Tabuk Province. Launched in 2017 by crown prince Mohammad bin Salman, the site is at the northern tip of the Red Sea, due east of Egypt across the Gulf of Aqaba and south of Jordan.
“NEOM is reimagining urbanism to be people-first and nature-friendly. THE LINE and the connectivity of our regions will be a model for the future- setting new global standards for livability.”
The total planned area of Neom is 26,500 km².” And NEOM characterize it as “NEOM is the land of the future where the greatest minds and best talents are empowered to embody pioneering ideas and exceed boundaries in a world inspired by imagination.” We say, whether you’re in that demographic or not, NEOM is ambitious, foreword thinking and, perhaps, what life may be like in the future, especially if we don’t start taking care of our planet.
