…. gimme the news. Most of the USA is new. New builds, new freeways, new cities etcetera, especially when you find yourself on the left side of the continent. You know, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle….. But, tucked over on the right side (and that doesn’t necessarily imply the correct side) you’ll find Olde Worlde USA. And there is actually quite a lot to do and see there, especially if you’re into history. Of course, one of the shining examples of how old America is and, even better, what a good job some of the cities have achieved in saving treasured buildings and ways of working has to be Boston, Massachusetts. It’s calling your name.
Starting from the north, you can work your way down the coast and will ultimately find yourself in Boston, Massachusetts. History and seafood, as well as the Atlantic ocean, will be your guide as you wind your ways through the narrow and twisty lanes. For example, check out the Freedom Trail, A 2.5-mile-long path that takes you through 16 historical sites, including the Boston Common, Paul Revere’s House, and the Old North Church. Boston is gorgeous, especially when you give yourself the time to aimlessly wander.
Another worthwhile destination is the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum: A unique museum housed in a beautiful Venetian-style palace with an extensive art collection. Boston Common and Public Garden is a lovely day out to enjoy a leisurely stroll, have a picnic, or take a ride on the famous Swan Boats. Which brings us to our main focus. Yes, there are the swan boats, as mentioned, but Boston is not all olde worlde. And here’s an example: a duck of a different kind.
Climb aboard a unique amphibious vehicle and discover Boston from a different perspective. The World War II-style “Duck” travels on land and water and takes you along historic streets and into the Charles River on an 80-minute tour of the city. It’s a blast, but be prepared to get sprayed and splashed. That’s part of the fun. You will be welcomed on board by one of the legendary “ConDUCKtors®” who will narrate your tour and tell you about Boston as the birthplace of freedom and place of “firsts.” Click here to take the plunge.
