Hot rod Bag Race

Check out this post. Those of us who are fortunate enough to travel will probably also have to endure the airline check-in procedures, that often includes sending our suitcases down the conveyor belt and – hopefully – on the way to our plane. Luckily, it usually works, albeit that it feels like it takes forever. Let’s just set the stage on baggage volumes. The number of flights taken globally by the airline industry has increased slowly but steadily since the beginning of the 2000s and hit the scales of 38.9 million in 2019. You can be sure that its rising. It certainly feels that way.

Numbers can vary, but industry estimates suggest that around 60-70% of air passengers check in baggage. Given these numbers, it’s possible to estimate the number of people checking in baggage every year.

1.2 billion passengers×0.65 (average percentage)=780 million passengers. Therefore, approximately 780 million passengers might check in their baggage in Europe each year. That’s a lot. So, when you check in your luggage, spare a thought to your bags as they leave you. Watch the roller-coaster ride, below, courtesy of Local4 news in Detroit, USA. Wheeeee! Even your bags need a holiday every once in a while.
