Hidden Treasure: Serenissima

Arrrr, this post is not about pirates, but you’ll still come away with some thing good that you can share with your friends. First of all, let’s set the stage: we’ll be focusing on Venice. Now, if you’ve been, you’ll know how busy and crowded in can be. We’ve been there many times over several decades and still love the city. In recent days, it’s been a location of some turmoil, what with heaving crowds of tourists, and gargantuan cruise ships changing the traditional vibe of Venice. Luckily, the city’s managers are taking that into hand and bringing back some sanity.

On one of our trips there, while we were flying on a high-speed train, we were greeted with a message that our hotel in Venice had been double-booked. Great. Tired, somewhat defeated and unsure what to do, we wandered away from Venice’s centre and sat down for a coffee. While one of the lovely and helpful staff of the coffee house heard of our dilemma, they mentioned that there was a little (and as it happens) little-known hotel just around the corner.

They suggested that we ask there. As it turns out, they did have rooms, but they were small, which was find, but also very inexpensive. So we popped our heads in the door and said “yes, we’ll take it. The staff there made it all happen for us and we’re thankful to this day, which is why we’re featuring them again. They were called Hotel Aurora, Mestre. You might want to save the name of this place for the next you’re in the Queen of the Adriatic. Click here courtesy of our affiliate friends. Booking. com

It’s a short walk to Venice itself, and Mestre itself has some lovely walks and markets. Give it a try. And tell theme that Matouring says hello.
