Aren’t we lucky to live in an age where knowledge is readily available, free in many cases, and actually useful. Even more importantly, news gets around fast, unlike the subject(s) of this post. We are time-traveling back into the Roman days, and what it was like to not only live in those heady (in their minds, anyway) citizens. A prevailing image of the Romans of those times were either fabulously wealthy, or were dirt poor.
There is of course, a middle ground, and one of the “sweet spots” where you would want to be would be to be a soldier. Sure, all of the pluses and minuses that soldiers must endure in those times also relates to present times. To say “it was the best of times, it was the worst of times” is not far from the truth.
If you love history and are interested in the truth as we know it, watch the video above, courtesy of the ever-interesting, ever-reliable British Museum in London. You might find yourself either saying tsk tsk or I want to know more.
Spend some quality time and get smart with “Curators’ Tour of Legion: life in the Roman Army.” Even if you’re not a huge history buff, this video is really engaging, informative and filled with a few ah-ha moments. And, of course, when you you’re actually in London, you can see all of these treasures, up close and personal and . . . oh, did we mention that it’s free? So what are you waiting for?
