Does history repeat itself? Sometimes, yes, unfortunately. But, happily, there are just as many instances that are actually beneficial and noteworthy that it’s time well-spent pausing and looking back and reflecting. For now, though, let’s focus on all of the cash, blood, sweat and tears that LaGuardia airport is putting into making it’s new airport rise and shine.

Still, a little history won’t go amiss. The history of LaGuardia Airport is deeply intertwined with the vision and determination of Fiorello H. La Guardia, the energetic mayor of New York City in the 1930s and 40s, after whom the airport is now named. The site where LaGuardia Airport now stands was originally a 105-acre private flying field. Prior to that, it was the location of the Gala Amusement Park at North Beach, owned by the Steinway family. In 1929, it was converted into a private seaplane base and air terminal by New York Air Terminals, Inc. It was initially named Glenn H. Curtiss Airport in 1930, and later North Beach Airport in 1935. Compared to JFK, to some in New York, it has been sometimes characterized as the lesser airport.
However, that was then, but this is now. What New York LaGuardia Airport’s $8 Billion Upgrade Will Look Like. Watch the video above, courtesy of Wall Street Journal.

Yes, to be frank, it could use a little sprucing up. But, it’s on its way, and wait until you see it live!
