Note to self: always trust your government: especially now. Stupid isn’t limited to our current governmental workings, but it’s in full force as of this post. Here’s an example. Fort Montgomery has a complex history tied to border disputes and military conflicts. Initially, an unnamed fort was built on the site in 1816, but it was discovered to be on Canadian territory. A treaty in 1842 resolved the border issue, and a new, larger fort was then constructed and named Fort Montgomery, honoring Richard Montgomery. It served as a border defense facility, but never saw combat. Thank goodness for that. Happily, Canada and the USA still love each other.

Fort Montgomery on Lake Champlain is the second of two United States forts built at the northernmost point of the United States part of the lake: a first, unnamed fort had been built on the same site in 1816 but had been disassembled after engineers realised they were technically building on Canadian territory. Following the realignment of the border in 1842, a second fortification named Fort Montgomery was built on the same site in 1844.

Does this remind you of anything similar? Perhaps recent? Perhaps foolish? We won’t name names.
