Away with the ferries in Iceland.

Those of us who are familiar with the country Iceland have likely flown in to the country when traveling. That’s the approach that we took when we went recently. Icelandair is a good choice as you might expect. Hotels and car rentals are all easily sourced and, while more expensive than other travel destinations (it’s an island after all) you end up with an unforgettable experience. Unique is genuinely an appropriate label.

And, speaking of unforgettable experiences, one of our favourite YouTube creators is Scottish chap, Steve Marsh. He’s always honest, makes mistakes, befriends people left and right, and is always a joy to be around, even virtually.

So, in this latest solo adventure, Steve heads off for a walk in Iceland that he believes will keep him busy until its time for his flight back to Scotland. Surprise, surprise! Things go slightly awry, which takes his intended wander to a place called Seydisfjordur. We won’t give away too much of the rest of the story, but Steve spends a fair amount of time looking for a bus. It’s good fun and also helpful for your planning, too.

We won’t give away too much of the rest of the story, but Steve spends a fair amount of time looking for a bus. This may or may not your style of travel, but it’s fun to hear Steve navigate his way, until he finally finds his destination. Top tip: there are local buses in Iceland, but you should plan ahead and have plenty of cash.

In addition to all of this, as we were exploring alongside him in the video, we witnessed a huge cruise ship slide in. It was Norwegian Lines, but we were somewhat surprised to see it coursing its way into the dock of what appeared to be meant only for smaller ships. And it looked like a day-trip, as many passengers seemed to be disembarking. So take this as a top tip for cruising in the Nordic countries. Steve came into Seydisfjordur. You can do the same. It’s a port that supports ships large and small. And tourists like us.
