It’s estimated that nearly 40% of Americans can trace at least one ancestor to Ellis Island. This personal connection makes it a deeply meaningful place for many. Symbol of the American Dream: For those who passed through its halls, Ellis Island represented hope, opportunity, and a chance for a new life. It’s a powerful symbol of the immigrant experience and the pursuit of the American Dream. Your editor’s father, mother, older brother and sister made their way there, as they left their home in Wales.
