Don’t be nervous. It’s Jervis.

Looking for something unusual that you can parade in front of your friends, without threatening your life?Jervis Bay, located on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia, is indeed a unique place to visit, primarily due to its unexpected natural beauty and remarkable biodiversity. Here’s what sets it apart First off, Oz needs to introduction, because it’s, without a doubt, a destination.

Your editor has been there (Oz, that is) a number times before, but that was for work, and mostly situated in Sydney. Lucky me, I know. Visiting there with my beloved wife is on the list and we’ll make it happen. But this post is not about the picture perfect Oz that everyone envisions. This is about a place where you need to want to explore like an explorer and try to give the big-ticket destinations a miss, at least for now.

One adventure that everyone will love is the Bioluminescent Plankton shores: a truly magical and somewhat rare phenomenon, Jervis Bay is one of the best places in Australia to witness bioluminescent plankton in the ocean at night. Under the right conditions (most commonly in late spring through early autumn, November to April), the water glows with an ethereal blue light when agitated, creating a mesmerizing “sea sparkle” effect. The trick here is to expertly time your chance to see it.

If that’s not enough, beyond the renowned beaches, Jervis Bay offers dramatic cliffs (like Point Perpendicular’s) sea caves, diverse bushland, and a mix of sheltered bay waters and exposed ocean beaches, providing a wide range of activities and scenery within a relatively compact area.
