Unlike many US cities, Chicago is big on rail. In and out of the metropolis, with coaches that girdle the suburbs surrounding this giant of a city of 2.664 million people, it’s a must. We often had to take the train when we worked there. The city would grind to a horrible halt without this superb service. CTA began operating on Oct. 1, 1947, after it acquired the properties of the Chicago Rapid Transit Company and the Chicago Surface Lines. The service is as exciting as the city itself. But, as you’ll guess by this post’s title, there is even more, something you may not expect to encounter, but it could make your day, if you do.
