Come to Comoros . .

. . . and don’t forget Mayaotte.

We’re back on the search for new and worthwhile places for you to enjoy in the world, and Comoros worked its way up the list. It might not have the established tourism infrastructure of some other destinations, but its unique blend of natural beauty, wildlife, culture, and authentic charm makes it a worthy place for adventurous and discerning travelers. And that would be you, our treasured readers.

So, to set the stage, The Comoros is a volcanic archipelago off Africa’s east coast, in the warm Indian Ocean waters of the Mozambique Channel. The nation state’s largest island, Grande Comore (Ngazidja) is ringed by beaches and old lava from active Mt. Karthala volcano. It boasts stunning, often deserted, white-sand beaches lapped by the clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Places like Bouni Beach are considered among the most beautiful. Doesn’t that sound a bit like heaven? And isn’t the quiet a nice benefit?

Around the port and medina in the capital, Moroni, are carved doors and a white colonnaded mosque, the Ancienne Mosquée du Vendredi, recalling the islands’ Arab heritage.

With this kind of history, you never know what you might find on the island.
