Chamberí

All cities have their secrets.   Some light, some dark, some darker.  Some are dark, some became that way beyond their control.  Some may remember past days and glories, while others will have no recollection at all.  That is the way of life.

Here, we talk about a hidden and – for the most part – forgotten element of that most quixotic cities, Madrid, and its beautiful and frozen-in-time rail.

Chamberí is a defunct metro station on the Line 1 of the Madrid Metro. Being one of the original 8 metro stops of the Madrid Metro, the station has been closed since 22 May 1966 and has been operating as a museum since 2008.

Here’s another chance for you to step back in time, see how the other half lived and, if you’re a history buff, relive a time that will never appear again.

Located on the Plaza de Chamberí, a short walk from either the Bilbao or Iglesia stop on the Metro’s line 1. The visit is free, but make sure to get there early, as a there is usually a long line of visitors due to the “one person out, one person in” policy.
