When we get the chance, we will always, without failure, make a bee-line for Spain for our holidays. Yes, it’s big and it’s busy. But it’s also diverse, exciting and has an infinite pull for us that is hard to deny. And, as is our wont, history is extant everywhere we go. Even more for us, though, is that it gets us out of the rainy and gray Pacific Northwest, where we reside. (Someday we may live there, we tell ourselves. Wish us luck.)

When you find that you’ve done the rounds and have seen most of the “must see’s” there is, of course, always more, but of a different angle, especially if you’re a history and art aficionado. So, with great pleasure, let us introduce you to Casa Navàs. It is a modernist building in the city of Reus, Catalonia, Spain. Designed by Catalan architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, located in the city’s Plaça del Mercadal. Joaquim Navàs Padró of Reus contracted Lluís Domènech i Muntaner as the architect of his new house.
Casa Navas is a definite “must-see” when you’re in Spain, especially if you’re visiting the Catalonia region. It’s not as globally famous as Gaudí’s works in Barcelona, but its unique history, incredible architecture, and near-perfect state of preservation make it a truly exceptional and fascinating place. Unparalleled Preservation: Casa Navas is one of the best-preserved examples of Catalan Modernisme (the Spanish equivalent of Art Nouveau). While many Modernista buildings in Barcelona were adapted or altered over time, Casa Navas survived the Spanish Civil War virtually untouched internally. It truly feels like stepping back into the early 20th century. History you can touch and absorb. To book your adventure, click here.
