There’s no getting around, getting around, as Julian Cope stated. Cars: you either suffer them, love them or run in the opposite direction. Your editor falls into the first category. I can’t recall the last time that I drove a vehicle, even though I still have one. Where we live, in Vancouver, Canada, we have a pretty darn good rail service called The SkyTrain. Thus, we use the car sparingly. We save money, gas and the planet, we’d like to think. Vancouver is relatively flat as terrain goes, but Mountains do come out of the sky and they stand there.
So, imagine yourself in a situation and a place where cars don’t work. They literally can’t move, from here to there. Welcome to Mürren, Switzerland. Throughout its history, this medieval hamlet has remained relatively secluded from the outside world. But now, the world’s steepest cable car whisks travelers to the 430-person village. Now we’re talking! Rather, we’re walking or even better, take the world’s steepest cable car.

Mürren, Switzerland, is a fun alpine escape due to its stunning car-free setting, offering unparalleled views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau; incredible hiking and winter sports, including access to the Schilthorn Piz Gloria; and a charming, authentic Swiss village atmosphere with family-friendly spots like Allmendhubel’s Flower Park, making it perfect for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
