We’re back on the trail of history again (as usual) and, as it happens, something popped that piqued our attention, one that was big on our list decades ago, but kind of receded into the background ever since. This post features, history, travel and the pièce de résistance, music, and specifically, Capitol Records. Nowadays, that groundbreaking company is populated by musicians such as Katy Perry, Ice Spice, Sam Smith, Troye Sivan, Kodak Black, Doechii, 50 Cent and Yeat. (Disclaimer: we know very little of these artists.) So we’re going back to the future. You don’t see too many hand-painted billboards for modern artists, anymore. That was then: this is now. Our examples of artists include the likes of Bob Seger, The Steve Miller Band who had signed with Capitol Records at the time and more. Other notable artists on the label during the decade were Bobby Darin and country singers Glen Campbell and Bobbie Gentry. Halcyon days, for sure. But, if you look closely enough, you can still see remnants of what once was the bees knees.
Of course, we wouldn’t be writing about this true legend (music is being made there even today) if there wasn’t something in it for you. The most famous Capital Records Building (there were actually several around the globe, but is the one in Los Angeles, California, at 1750 Vine Street is the best known. It’s the iconic circular building with the Hollywood sign blinking on top. It was designed to look like a stack of records and is a still popular tourist destination.
