Not too long ago, a plucky new airline in the UK, Global Airlines, had the audacity and chutzpah to think that they could resurrect the halcyon days of flight resuscitating vintage aircraft. Naysayers were having their day guffawing that the business model wouldn’t work, especially when the endeavour was solely using that most beautiful and luxurious bird of the skies, the Airbus A380. Well, to everyone’s surprise, recently the enterprise took off (figuratively and literally) and is now coursing through the skies of Europe. Huzzah Global Airlines!
As if that wasn’t interesting and exciting enough for us Avgeeks, we now hear that this business model may have its day again. Another legendary carrier is now rising from the ashes to bless us all with a new experience. Beyond Capricorn brings the luxury and excitement that most of us missed all of those decades ago. Using modern airliners, we might all just have a chance to imagine ourselves as Howard Hughes and his army of followers. Have a look at the video, here to discover what you might find. Save your pennies and soon you’ll be one to skip the life of the Hoi polloi with Beyond Capricorn
Pan Am was incorporated in 1927 by Juan Terry Trippe, a visionary former World War I naval aviator. Initially, the company was a shell entity formed by three U.S. Army Air Corps officers, but Trippe’s Aviation Corporation of the Americas quickly gained control. The gestation period for the airline took its time, but this was because of the technology at the time. Pan Am’s first scheduled international airmail service began on October 19, 1927, flying between Key West, Florida, and Havana, Cuba. Passenger service followed shortly thereafter in January 1928.
