For most of us of a certain age, the idea of taking a cross country train conjures up loads of nostalgia. After growing up with films where rail featured in a big way, the lure and the pull is hard to deny, especially when trains girdle the globe. Many countries have turned what is, essentially, a service that every country should have. Many countries hold up high awards with their levels of rail service. Once again, and no surprise, China leads the pack, followed by India, Japan and Russia. Those countries know that rail is the way.
Europeans are also used to excellent rail services, so many are surprised when they step on to a train in North America – specifically the USA. In many ways and for a very long time, rail in America is an afterthought. So, with your eyes and ears wide open, watch the video of a British chap, Tim, with reasonable expectations impressions of the USA’s AMTRAK rail services.
