History is a strange and unusual thing. For example, Turkeys were once worshipped like gods. Or, once , 100 Imposters Claimed to Be Marie Antoinette’s Dead Son. Napoleon was once attacked by a horde of bunnies. Yes, supposedly these are all true, but you can never tell on the Internet.
But, one thing we know for sure, is that the atomic bomb was real and wasn’t funny. And the fact that politicians are waving the idea around again (in 2023) is also real and not funny. So, perhaps this is a chance to go back in time, review what transpired and then take a deep, deep breath and hope for the best.
There is a place in Las Vegas (of course it’s Las Vegas) where The Atomic Museum and the NTSHF ( Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation) have established the place if you want to learn more about those most scary and tragic decades. A Smithsonian affiliate, The National Atomic Testing Museum (Atomic Museum), is a national science, history and educational institution that tells the story of America’s nuclear weapons testing program at the Nevada Test Site. The Museum uses lessons of the past and present to better understand the extent and effect of nuclear testing on worldwide nuclear deterrence and geo-political history. It provides collection-based exhibits and learning activities for greater public understanding and appreciation of the world in which we live. Its collections and activities are inseparably linked to serve a diverse public of varied ages, backgrounds and knowledge.
As gruesome as the topic is, the museum does its very best to be as upbeat as it can. Click here.
