Vancouver, Canada, is not a particularly old city. You might see some buildings from the late 1800’s, but mostly it’s 1970’s family homes and high-rise apartments. We were driving down the street the other day in Vancouver, and passed this hotel / motel that we hadn’t seen before, the 2400 Motel. We were taken by its genuine “frozen in time” look, especially when compared to the steel and glass towers that were slowly, but surely starting to commandeer the neighbourhood. So, as is our way, we decided to look into it.
Sure enough, it’s been around for decades and has maintained its retro look and feel with no apparent need to bring itself into the 21st century – and that’s OK with us. As the owners say “for over 75 years, the 2400 Motel has welcomed visitors and new arrivals seeking a place to call home. Today when personal space is more important than ever, visitors to Vancouver enjoy the breathing room provided by motel-style accommodation. Drive or walk up to your door, wander our grounds with the family pet, or play a game of bocce ball. Slow down and experience the vibe.”
They even have retro events, such as classic car shows.
