A tale of two cities

For every positive story that we read, there is sometimes a downside, as well. The ides of March will often prevail, no matter the herculean efforts of those effected. This tale is based in the Midwest of the United States: Cleveland Ohio, to be specific. Once a powerhouse in commerce and industry, Cleveland, like so many other American cities of its ilk now languishes in parts, and lie in ruins in others. Once Cleveland was known as the best location in the nation and, in many ways that was true. But businesses left and so did much of the population.

It is a sad story to tell, but Cleveland is not alone. Youtubers Joe and Nic are the curious types and don’t stick to the normal and staid approach. For this post, we feature one of their videos. Yes, there is squalor -sometimes to an alarming amount – but what is even more interesting is how the city has been divided into the haves and the have-nots.

So, to really get a feel of the separation of what is versus what was, pay particular attention to the video around the 18:51 time. Starting at Mount Vernon Boulevard and Brewster road intersection. You’ll wonder if we’re even discussing the same place. One interesting aspect of this urban shift is that some intrepid individuals can purchase what once were splendid properties that average around $49,000. Who knows? Perhaps the city will arise again. The residents who are there sure do try hard.

It should be noted that this post focuses on a specific location, but the contrasts give you pause to think.
