Remember the days of yore, when you could simply and easily book a flight from the comfort of your laptop, getting top savings almost without even really trying? And then, soon after – et voila! – you’d arrive at your local airport, waltz through the doors and then summarily hop on the plane and in a matter of hours, you’d be winging your way to London or Santiago or Cleveland. Bish, bash, bosh – job done. Food on the plane was hot, diverse and free. So were the drinks. Also, Aircraft cabins were often more spacious in the past, with more legroom and wider seats. Nowadays, airlines have reduced seat pitch and width to accommodate more passengers, leading to a perception of less comfort.
Airlines are suffering – again – but this time with a shortage of aircraft. When the Covid pandemic kamikaze’d its way into our lives and no-one was flying anymore, airlines mothballed their planes, usually in the desert. So, now that we need them again, it’s a rather lengthy and necessary process that can take months to complete. Catch 22. Watch the video below for a more in-depth look at the dilemma.
Travelling in this day and age (we’re writing here in July 2023) is still a bit of a nightmare. Back then, you could actually stretch your legs a bit, and your fellow passengers behaved, rather than some of the Neanderthal behaviour we see today. Makes you want to stay home and play Frogger. But don’t do that.
Help yourself to help yourself: spend time researching your destination, including local customs, attractions, and transportation options. Planning ahead can help you make the most of your trip and avoid any unnecessary stress. Traveling with lighter luggage makes navigating airports, train stations, and other transportation hubs much easier. It also gives you more flexibility and reduces the risk of lost baggage.
Also, remember: nostalgia often colors our perceptions of the past, and people tend to remember positive aspects while overlooking negative ones. This can contribute to the belief that flying in the past was better, even if it might not necessarily be true in all aspects.
