We periodically write about Wales, the oft-forgotten member of the United Kingdom’s family. The country sits in the background, reinventing itself over and over.
Once known only for coal and sheep, Wales has been transforming into a destination, as both of those means of putting food on the table are diminishing.
The natural path is tourism, and Wales is bringing its history and diversity into the sun by matching that background with the up-to-date tourist offerings.
One big attraction is small trains. At one time, dozens of small train companies and their stations dotted the countryside. But, in the 1960’s, all of the UK‘s rail systems were – some drastically – pruned to save precious cash.
And that is to your benefit. Now you can enjoy hopping on Narrow gauge and miniature steam trains that once was a mainstay of Welsh society.
