Monty Python notwithstanding, the legend of Arthur, king of the Britons remains an enduring, fascinating and unresolved story. Dozens of films have been made, and yet, his legend is still shrouded in uncertainty.
One thing about him that has more ground – literally – is where his infamous castle lair was located – generally accepted as Tintagel, overlooking the sea off north Cornwall, in the UK.
It has become somewhat of a hermitage for believers, and the village itself wasted no time in promoting the legend.
But, was he a real person? Did he actually exist?
