of Ancient Megalithic Sites Are you born for action? Do you want to see the world? Not only see it but feel it, touch it, taste it (where not prohibited by law) and really have something to talk about at the dinner table. This is it, then, & it can be yours. We’ve been fortunate enough to spend time in Peru and Bolivia. Genuinely unforgettable.

Peru and Bolivia are home to some of the most impressive megalithic sites in the world, with massive stone constructions that continue to baffle archaeologists and engineers. These sites are a testament to the advanced engineering and astronomical knowledge of ancient Andean civilizations, particularly the Incas and their predecessors.

Just as a teaser, behold Sacsayhuamán: Located on a hill overlooking Cusco, this site is famous for its massive, zigzagging walls made of enormous, finely cut boulders. Some of these stones weigh over 125 tons, yet they fit together with incredible precision without the use of mortar. The walls are so well-made that they have withstood centuries of earthquakes.

Ollantaytambo is another site in the Sacred Valley is both a fortress and a ceremonial center. Its most striking feature is the Temple of the Sun, an unfinished wall made of six massive, perfectly-cut monoliths. The sheer size and weight of these stones, along with the precision of their joints, are a mystery to modern-day engineers.
