Or have they? We love YouTube. Not only for what it offers, but also how it opens doors to the planet. Your editor is of an age where history is a big feature and, also, a reminder. The other day, a video popped up (above) showing Iran in the 1940s. (see above.) Not only is it interesting and informative, but it clears away the clouds of history that we live with nowadays. For most of us, Iran is still somewhat of an enigma. Even now, though, there is still so much to see and do in the country if you act as a mature traveler should. We continue to wish that the country will become more open and available than some in other parts of the world would wish. Watch above and learn. In some ways, it’s a small world, after all.
Iran’s current standing on the world stage is defined by a complex mix of geopolitical tensions, a weakened but determined position, and a strategic pivot towards non-Western alliances. Its status is a direct result of ongoing conflicts, international sanctions, and domestic political shifts. Weakened “Axis of Resistance”: Iran’s network of regional proxies, often referred to as the “Axis of Resistance,” has faced severe setbacks. A recent war with Israel in June 2025 and a subsequent Israeli bombing campaign in Lebanon have severely impacted Hezbollah. We say, Peace and love. ✌

Crippling Sanctions: The United States continues to enforce a “maximum pressure” campaign, targeting Iran’s oil exports and financial networks. The US Treasury has recently sanctioned entities and individuals involved in creating alternative banking systems to evade sanctions, signaling a tightening of these restrictions. Pivot to the East: In response to Western sanctions, Iran has increasingly pivoted its trade towards non-Western partners, particularly China and other neighboring countries. These relationships, however, often come with significant disadvantages for Iran, such as selling oil at a discount.
