G’day mate?

When most of us think of Australia, it’s  places like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. They all seem to get the best PR and, hence, the visitors. In fact, in the year ending September 2023, Australia saw over 6.11 million international visitors. This is still below the pre-pandemic peak of 8.66 million in the year ending September 2019, but the trend shows strong recovery momentum. In 2024, total visitor arrivals (including domestic and international) reached 126.79 million. And that is nothing to sniff at.

However, how many of us give a thought to some of the much smaller outback cities in the country? Several of these cities in Australia offer a blend of lifestyle appeal and unique characteristics. Some examples include Port Macquarie, Wangaratta, Toowoomba, Fremantle, and Launceston. These places often provide a close-knit community feel, beautiful natural surroundings, and a more relaxed pace of life compared to the major metropolitan areas.

They’re out there, but you will need to look. You might even drive past one on your way. Have you thought to stop and look? If not, you really might want to give it some thought. Many of the small towns are dwindling. Watch the video above. courtesy of ABC News
