“You’re never too old to be young.”

We were looking through some family photos the other day, mostly of my mother and father. They came from a place in Europe where money was scarce in the post-war 1950’s. But they still endured. Eventually they ended up in the USA. But they never wasted a moment in living their lives there. One big trip that they embarked on was to Disney World in Florida.

I can still see the smiles on their faces, mostly because they left loads of photos: my dad loved taking photos. This must have been in the 1960’s judging by the photos. Making a journey by car from the northern parts of the USA to the south was quite the endeavour, especially when they would need to make the trek back again. After spending more time with the images, I was intrigued at how much Disney World had changed over all of those years. So, I did a little digging.

One element of the park that always intrigued me was Epcot. The promise was bold and full of confidence. Could this be the future, or just another one-off, destined to the whims of those who missed the theme?

So, to kind of square the circle, I discovered that Epcot really hasn’t changed its raison d’etre after all. Oh, happy day! Hope you had fun, mum and dad. As the old saw goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” And, Yes, the monorail system at Disney World is still running. It operates across several routes, including those to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and various resorts. The monorail provides a complimentary transportation option for guests.
