London to Santander. See you there.

. . . ferry nice! We love to watch and read the adventures of The Man in Seat 61. Mark Smith, like us, has been keeping himself busy over the years by maintaining his very excellent blog. He does it because he loves it and the quality of the output is impressive.

For the most part, Mark covers rail, but sometimes he branches off to equally explore the rest of the planet. This episode finds him making his way to Madrid and Santander by Ferry. For those who are not nearby or used to the idea of ferries, they’re a big part of travel when in Europe, Asia, and even here in Canada. Where there is water, there are ferries. If you’ve not made the leap to ferries, watch this video and be thrilled.

Ferries, while often slower than planes or even trains, offer a unique and often superior travel experience for many reasons. They aren’t just a mode of transport; they can be an integral part of the journey itself. Bring Your Own Car/Bike: This is perhaps the biggest advantage.

You can drive your own car, motorcycle, campervan, or even bicycle directly onto the ferry. This eliminates the need for car rentals at your destination (saving money and hassle) and allows you to explore at your own pace once you arrive. Unlike airlines with their strict weight and size restrictions and hefty fees, ferries generally allow you to bring significantly more luggage. You can often pack your vehicle to the brim, making it ideal for longer trips, family vacations, or if you need to transport bulky items (sports equipment, instruments, shopping).

We’ve lived near the water for decades. Ferries are our thing. So is Ferryhopper. To book, click here
