Most of us aren’t rich, so we do what we can to change our station in life a little bit, even if it’s fleeting. The problem is that, by not being rich, we miss a plethora of opportunities that may never appear in our lives again. Fear not, though. We have something for you and it matters not whether you’re rich or poor. It’s the Opéra Garnier. The real matter here is that you want this . . . and now you can have this, even if it’s just for an afternoon. The icing on the cake is that it is in the pulsing centre of Paris, the hub of European of activity and the focus here is Opera. And not just any opera. It is the vaunted Opéra Garnier.
Talk about bragging rights with your friends and family! You’ll experience the Palais Garnier at your own pace and discover one of Paris’ most significant architectural gems. Just to be sure, this is your chance to explore this frankly gobsmacking edifice (that is, this not a ticket to the opera itself.)

Still, the sumptuous decoration, the overall magnificence and the mind blowing variety of materials used in the interior of the Palais Garnier will take your breath away. But remember that it’s a wonderful architectural treat for when you’re tired of seeing all the usual sites. It isn’t tickets into the opera.

It’s a prime example of Beaux-Arts architecture, with influences from Baroque Revival and the Second Empire style. Architect Charles Garnier designed it, and it’s named in his honor. The building is known for its opulent and elaborate decoration, both inside and out.
It was built between 1861 and 1875, commissioned by Emperor Napoleon III. It served as the primary home of the Paris Opera and its ballet company until the Opéra Bastille opened in 1989. Please note that this is a tour of the building, and not to the opera itself.

When in Paris, we always look to stay at the fabulous Hotel Champs du Mar. Cozy, centrally located and within walking distance of almost everything. Enjoy views of the Eifel Tower from the hotel. Wonderful. Click here.
