Imagine being the boss of the EU. There are 449.2 million citizens running around 27 countries (and the EU and wider Schengen Area.) Some of them belong there, others not so much. Despite the odds, the EU works, and acts as a model for how it should be done: ever-changing, never-changing When trying to “herd the cats” the EU has experimented with a number of solutions, with some wins and some less so. So, now, with the best of intentions, there is a new solution to make the whole thing work, and – surprise.
The much-postponed entry-exit system (EES), due to take effect 30 days from now, has been delayed indefinitely. According to The Independent, “Brussels is bowing to the growing chorus of concern about queues that could keep passengers waiting on planes and other unintended consequences of the smart frontiers project.”
The ramifications to this are interesting. How often do you see countries back down on their promises and come up with something better? You probably can’t count those instances on one hand.
