UK’s ‘worst’ theme park?

How many times have you heard the phrase …. ‘worst XXXX park …. as you dutifully scour the internet for your next adventure, especially for the kids. Social media has made everything hyperbolic, even if it’s just the case of a bad milk shake or having to wait in a queue for a ride on the Tilt-Whirl. Continuing the theme, how many times have you taken your kids to a fun park or an all-inclusive resort? Maybe a few or more (this concept is huge in the UK and Europe) and how bad was the experience? Did the kids drag their feet and weep openly or make a dash for the car? Rarely, in our experience of being parents.

When we read this post about Flamingo Land Resort, we had to look into it. Our kids are long past this phase of life, so we know what kids in the UK expect when it comes to Fun parks (as they’re known there.)

Hmmm. Fun and thrilling rides? Check. Reasonable prices? You decide. The kids will be happy, either way.

Water rides where you will inevitably get soaked? Check. Is it fun? Yes!

Still, after all of that, recently LatestDeals.co.uk labeled Flamingo Land as the king of its ranking of the nation’s 10 worst theme parks, comparing a list based on Tripadvisor reviews, ticket prices, and the average ride costs. Well, if it’s Tripadvisor, it must count for something. The article notes that Standard admission starts at £44.50, some way south of the £29 charged by Alton Towers and Thorpe Park. Now, that’s something to ponder, especially when Alton Towers and Thorpe Park are at the top of the hill when it comes to all-family fun parks.

Note that the park does actually feature live animals which most young children love. So what do you think? is this a mountain made out of a molehill, or is Flamingo Land taking the mickey?

For us, one top alternative is Chessington (another adventure park’s) Bubbleworks. Quiet, serene, lovely.
