The harder they come, the harder they fall. But, what a way to go. Fame is so often fleeting. You’re on top of the game, and then before you know it, you’re yesterday’s news. And there are fewer places on the planet where time, luck and the vagaries of public opinion can knock one’s crown to the dust than in Las Vegas. By the time you read this, everything will have changed. The gist of the story is that The Mirage casino, host to so many fantastical events and memories, will be no more.
We’ve been to Vegas probably too many times, but it is a place that is sticky and addictive. We know better about traipsing down the main drag, wandering around in all of the casinos, telling ourselves that we’re having a good time (and to be fair, there have been lots of good times there. But, as Bob Dylan said, the times, The Times They Are A-Changin’.
So, alas, it’s time to say goodbye to the never-changing, ever-changing Mirage Casino. And it’s meet the new boss, same as the old boss, to a degree. To be honest, though, one of the biggest thrills of all was taking our young-ish sons to see The Beatles at the Mirage Love Vegas Cirque Du Soleil. We loved it. They were somewhat unimpressed. But at least we did our job as parents.
