How to walk.

This may raise alarms with some, so please accept our apologies, if so. Matouring is always on the warpath to get people out of their fossil-fuel belching automobiles and into different modes of getting around. In the past, we’ve covered rail, car sharing aircraft, and even ferries.

All of these have the potential to make a big difference now and into the future. But, indulge us while we boast about probably the easiest, and certainly the most environment-friendly mode, and that’s walking. Calm down. It’s good and its good for you: you must know that in your heart of hearts. “But . . but . . how and where do I even start to make this Herculean attempt? And what if I get lost?

Worry not, we have two solutions that might just change your life, and your health. Let’s start with a simple and extremely available and understandable source, Google Maps. Google Maps can be an extremely useful tool to navigate through a new location or place.

You can also use it to get directions and possible transportation options. If you plan on walking, you can use it to get street-by-street directions to help you navigate to your destination. You will also get an idea how far and how long it will take to get there. Read more here courtesy of Wikihow.org

Another one that we love that works well in vehicles if you want to get started or end up getting stuck, is the free and egalitarian Navmii. It is mostly targeted at businesses who need to track their trucks. But it’s free to use and it bailed us out more than once when we were trying to find a tiny hotel in the smallest of towns in Italy. Navmii also has voice directions that follow the visual images. And, more pertinent to this post, you can use Navmii as walking instructions, too. Click here to find out more about Navmii.

You may not need to “gear up” for your walks, but good shoes are a must. Cabela’s has them. Click here.
