(Hoping the food isn’t that old.) We stumbled upon this video a few weeks back and it really intrigued us, in a number of ways. First, we found it quite interesting that there are humans out there who actually take the time to look into these kinds of things: many thanks, you curious and persistent scholars.
Secondly, as you watch the video, you’ll see some to-ing and fro-ing about which is actually the oldest. Happily, unlike most interactions of these types on the Internet, the conversations are kind, considerate and well-thought out, rather than the tiring kinds of hyperbole that pervades our time and our craniums these days. Maybe we’re just old and in the way. And maybe that’s a good thing.
So, as is the current view on this somewhat peculiar subject, the oldest Chinese restaurant in the USA is generally considered to be the Pekin Noodle Parlor, located in Butte, Montana. It was established in 1911 and is still in operation today, making it a significant historical establishment within the Chinese-American community and the broader American culinary landscape.

(We have to say that Butte, Montana took us by surprise, especially when you look back in time and see how long the Asian people have been in North America, and what they brought with them.) But, it appears that this conundrum has been settled. (Watch the video above.) And, why not stop by and order some Chow Mein or any number of scrumptious and authentic dishes while you’re there.
