Not smart but clever?

Just like we say “where would we be without GPS?“, we also wonder where would we be without our smart phones. I think I need a smartphone just to find my smartphone, somewhere in the house.

But, some of us start to resent our phones: we can’t live with them, we can’t live without them. They’re a necessary evil. And, some people think the key-word is “evil.” It’s just too easy to bury your nose in your phone and not talk to anyone at a party. It’s also too easy to not exercise your brain when it comes to the daily grind: we have our phones! Job done.

There is a growing gaggle of people who are turning away from smartphones. They are conciously and voluntarily stepping back into time and choosing phones that debuted in the 1990’s. They’re now lovingly referred to as “dumbphones.” Above and beyond old Nokia and Samsung flip phones, there is an entirely brand new generation of dumbphones on the market. As Light Phone co-founder, Kaiwei Tang says “”If aliens came to earth they’d think that mobile phones are the superior species controlling human beings.” He may be right.
