Closed encounters of the nerd kind

This post is aimed at those who don’t take things too seriously. And, we mean that. But hopefully your sense of humour is intact. And, at the end of you reading this, if you find yourself in that part of the world, the activity is real and it is a place where you can go and draw your own conclusions.

Governments are peculiar organisms, especially when it comes to priorities: feed our people or bomb another country? No use in spending much time on that conundrum, as we will get nowhere fast.

But, we sometimes hear about “projects” that the governments undertake that are stealth or hidden or even fabricated and many of us are intrigued. Our taxes go to things that we don’t agree with or, worse, don’t understand.

In good old neutral Canada, we tend to take the peaceful path; never too aggresive, only jump when we’re provoked. Kind people. Safe cities. Healthcare. But, that doesn’t mean we’re immune to the “call of the wild.” About an hour east of Vancouver lies the sleepy town of Mission, BC. A nice place, but about as average as you can get. But, once as we took a summer drive, we encountered this place.

What is it?

Set back off the main highway, nestled in the mountains and near the river, this mysterious and foreboding complex looms, just challenging you to breach its walls.

The forbidden gates
Even more ominously, these buildings once housed workers (we assume) but they have all since been razed.

What could it all mean? Alien species? Invisible invaders from other countries or other planets? We’re not sure, and attempts to walk up to the gates provided no real information. We’re kind of shy, anyway. What do you think? Would you come here to investigate? We’ve given you the coordinates. There are even pleasant things to do in the area if your “espionage” turns up with nothing. Spies? Cold War? Communism? Who knows? But, a mystery to be sure.

The Sandman Hotel and Suites Abbotsford are close to the compound . . comfortable, too.
