Chiloé to go

We would guess that there are only a few of our clever readers that would not want to go to Chile. It is one of those South American countries that just seems to call our name. It’s far away from most places on the planet, so many casual tourists might give it a pass. It is not overrun with the tourists who do choose to explore its many virtues. And, geographically, as a tourist, you find yourself in one of the most fascinating and exciting locations on the planet. For the most part, you have the place yourself, and that is a blissful situation for almost any traveler. But, if you’re looking for even more exclusivity, have you considered Chiloé?

Chiloé Island, the main island in the archipelago of the same name, is in southern Chile. It’s home to pastoral landscapes and known for its iconic wooden churches built by Jesuit missionaries in the 17th and 18th centuries, such as the Church of Chonchi. The northwest coast, where blue whales gather, also has the 3 islets Islotes de Puñihuil, Natural Heritage Site, a Magellanic and Humboldt penguin breeding ground.
